INFO GUIDE: 1964 - 1971 Fiat Abarth 695 esse esse (SS)

Many of the visual / external features of the 695 SS are easily replicated with aftermarket parts, however, external inspection makes a good starting point for identification of a genuine vehicle. A Fiat 695 SS should have the following external features:

• Either 12" Magnesium Campagnolo alloy wheels, or 12" Bonari Steel rims (as pictured) were generally fitted.
• Doors opening against the wind (ie not suicide doors).
• Resin fender flares moulded to the body. These are much wider than the 595 SS arches.
• Esse Esse script on the rear engine lid (See images).
• Often chrome "Fiat Abarth" lettering on the front trunk hood, and or chrome "695" lettering (See images).
• Side decals stating "Fiat Abarth 695".
• 2/3 roll back vinyl sunroof.
• Abarth badges centre front and rear (see images).
• Small Abarth badge on lower rear quarter panel, with chrome 695 badge directly underneath (see images).
• Abarth labelled front trunk rubber stay (not present on all cars).
• The "ABARTH" labelled finned sump is usually easily seen when looking at the rear of the car, but in the 695 SS can often be covered up by a sump guard.
• Asetto Corsa 695 SS came with red flares and a front red painted trapazoisal section.
• Often came with an "Always Open" engine hood bracket, as shown in images.

The following interior features should be present on a Fiat 695 SS Abarth:

• Jaeger dashboard with four dials (see images).
• The esse-esse script on the dash and Abarth badge next to 695.
• Abarth three spoke Steering wheel as pictured.
• Vinyl bucket seats (usually red vinyl with white piping).

The remaining features in the interior of the car we believe are consistent with the standard Fiat 500 from 1964 - 1971. Please contact us should you have any additional information on interior features so we can update this section.

From our research, we have only been able to confirm that The Fiat 595 SS came in white, with red Abarth decals. Fiat offered three types of white paint during the 595 SS production period, whichare outlined here:

1. 212 White (Lucite Code: 8285L)

2. 229 White (Lucite Code: 8286L) (Dulux 5 Code: 98110)

3. 233 White (Lucite Code: 8288L) (Dulux 5 Code: 97636)

The Asetto Corsa model (The highest performance model) came with red flares and a red trapazoidal front section).

We have not confirmed precisely which paint code was offered on the 595 SS, however, if you are aware of the correct colour, please contcat us so we can update this section.

The Fiat 695 SS Abarth will have two identification numbers. Firstly, the Fiat Chassis number on the Fiat identification plate / stamped into the body, and secondly, the Abarth specific number.

Fiat Chassis Number:

The correct Fiat chassis number for an Abarth 695 SS should begin with the prefix 110F. This is located in the front trunk compartment, on what would normally be referred to as the ‘firewall’ (as seen in the images). The number on the Fiat chassis plate should match the number stamped into the body directly under that plate.

Abarth Specific Chassis Number:

The Abarth specific chassis number for a Fiat 695 SS is located in the front trunk compartment, on what would normally be referred to as the ‘firewall’. The number is stamped into the body, just above the front RHS wheel (see images for a better description).

The Abarth specific chassis number is simply a number stamped “ABARTH 106” with the individual Abarth number for that car underneath. The Abarth number will have a star on either side of it (see images).

The font used for this Abarth number is slightly different from the font used for the Fiat chassis number as described above. The Abarth number is also believed to be hand punched, and is often not neatly done like the Fiat number.

It is worth noting that the Abarth 695 SS retained the Fiat chassis ID plate, and was not fitted with a separate Abarth ID plate.

A Fiat 595 SS Abarth, like other Fiat 500 Abarth cars, should have an “ABA 206” engine number prefix stamped into the engine block. The engine version number (110F) will usually be written under that, followed by the individiual engine number for the car. The precise location is shown in the images, and should be easily visible after opening the hood. The most important thing is that the ABA 206 is stamped on the engine.

The Fiat Abarth 695 SS had the following mechanical features in original form:

• Weber 40DCOE carburetter (40mm Carby), connected to an Abarth double-outlet silencer.
• That carb is very high and to make room for it the engine has been lowered about 10mm and additionally the hook for the hood has been cut away from the body.
• central oil feed boring in the engine block.
• Higher-compression pistons.
• Re-worked inlet ports.
• Abarth valve covers and air filter.
• Abarth magnesium alloy sump.
• a special camshaft and exhaust system.
• 12“ magnesium alloy wheels.
• 694cc engine.
