This is our 1937 Rolls Royce 25-30 Limousine (6 passenger + driver), which was first delivered in 15/04/1937, and remains fitted with its original Freestone & Webb body (body number 1168 and design number 1615).
Enquiries with the Rolls Royce club confirm the first owner was R. Grant in the UK. We’ve not been able to trace an English registration number, but the earliest records of the car in Australia being from 1986. This particular car is pictured when new in the book “Coachwork on Rolls Royce” at page 76, in which body number 1168 is described as “Six Light Limousine”. An image of that page is attached.
It also appears in an issue of Praeclarum Rolls Royce Club of Australia. All parts and accessories are with the car, which was partly disassembled for maintenance on the front end. We are in the process of reassembling the front end, and all accessories. The wheels have all been stripped and painted, with new tyres fitted (over a decade ago – unused since).
The paint job is probably 25 years old and presents OK. Many of the items (brackets etc) that were removed from the front end, have been painted ready for re-assembly. The front seats are beige leather, and the rear (including the dickie seats) are beige cloth. The car’s file comes with a fair few early original photographs (possibly from the 1960s/70s).
We’ve had the car running and driving. Won’t take much work to get it re-assembled and back on the road, which we're working on in the interim.
The car can be inspected next in Bundanoon, NSW, on 24 October.
